Blog

When a writer has been writing blogs, but didn't tell you... no, pos wao.

Hey familia -

So I don’t know where to begin. I guess if you keep up with my Twitter - @thepoetmendez then reading this might be a moot point - but I just realized that it has been a bit of time since I have written in this blog space. Life is fleeting.

If you are new to my space and my site, entonces, bien venidos. I am writer and an educator and an activist. I have a wife with Lupus, a two year old daughter and we are all living in a pandemic. My mother just died from complications with COVID-19 and my father and I are all that is left. I am a little empty some days. Other days, I think I see my mom in my daughter Luz Maria’s carita.

Life is hard and beautiful. I am blessed still to have a writing life. I am blessed to have a job. I haven’t been able to consistently write a blog on this thing. Hell the last time I wrote a blog here was just as the Trump Administration had begun its tenure. Its been a mad house since then.

What can i say?

I published a book.
I was head coach of a nearly undefeated boy’s soccer team.
We had a kid.
I was a Senior English High School teacher.
I got a gig as the Houston based Literary Outreach Coordinator for Poets & Writers Inc.
My wife got a new job.
I left my teacher job to be a development coach and curriculum writer.
My wife lost her job.
The pandemic happened.
I lost my mom.
I am taking care of my dad.
I am organizing a new manuscript.
I am writing blogs.

I am here.

So, all I can say is stay tuned. I am still doing gigs and creating works.

If you would like to read the blogs I am creating, please take a look here - the #UnitedStatesOfWriting Blogs for Poets & Writers.

More soon.
